" Shredder jammed the second week of operation. It did not self reverse itself as advertised. I had to pull the jam out forcefully. My other complaint is that the size of the shred is larger than I expected. My old shredder produced smaller size shreds.

" Safety and paper thickness sensors are so tight the shredder would not accept one or two pages. It is impossible to push them in. I would take my old DM15C if I could fix it. Looks great in the office. It is going back to Costco.

" Bought the Fellowes 99Ci shredder to replace another Fellowes shredder that stopped working. (Fellowes refused to stand behind the warranty on that one, even though the cutters were still covered by its 7 year warranty.) I have no idea how they rate this shredder for 17 pages per pass. If I run two 20# sheets through or one piece of card stock type of junk mail, the little meter on it goes all the way up to red, indicating that it's too much! I ran two sheets at a time through this shredder for four minutes and it overheated! WTH?! Piece of junk & I'm returning it. Not as quiet as the last one, either.

" I bought this machine because it was said to be able to handle up to 17 sheets of paper, it does not do that, it barely does about half of that. The feed gets a bit annoying because you have to have all of your papers very organized and lined up to insert them. Post it notes are annoying. Buying bags for it, also pricey.

" First one failed new-out-of-the-box. Bad switch. Replacement worked for a while, then switch became problematic - we just left it on all of the time. Now it has failed too. Shredded well when it worked, but unacceptable quality issue for a heavy duty rated office machine, and for a machine at this price.

" I purchased the 99Ci shredder since I needed a bigger one to meet my needs. I was happy when it arrived. Overall it is a good shredder but it seriously lacks the quality necessary for the build. In particular, since taken out of the box (before the first use even) the drawer (where the clippings are stored) is very hard to close. In fact, at times it takes multiple tries in order to properly close it. This shredder is expensive when compared to the others for home office/household use so I was expecting a higher quality build. Unfortunately, that was not the case. While I am happy with the shredding capabilities, I am very disappointed with the design. I would likely NOT purchase this same shredder again.

" This is my third 99-series shredder, even with oiling blades etc they wear out for me about every three years. Moderate household use.
Plusses: It doesn't look as cheap as what the office and big box stores would have you purchase.
Minus: Irritating quality. Why would they ship me one that stays on all the time, that I have to turn off manually? I followed instructions to clean the infrared sensor light, the thing still stays on all the time. Yeah- and I'm going to take a morning to ship the thing back to the factory in Itasca? Easier to simply have a brief, bad impression of this product every time I turn it on. Until it wears out in three years.
But like I said, the other shredders are worse. This time I brought home another brand from OfficeMax, also higher-end...THAT one wouldn't even turn on! The store couldn't believe it when they tried.

" I've had several Fellowes shredders over the years but this one is just not functional. Isues are, first, it runs continuously. will not stop for any reason other than powering off, overheating or safety switch activation. Second, will shut down after only 2 to 3 minutes of running with the overheating light illuminated and will not turn back on for at least 20 minutes. Third, the safety switch is so tight that a single sheet of paper will not feed through. I need to use at least 5 sheets to make it stiff enough to feed in. Fourth, when I do use 5 sheets of paper the overfeed safety activates shutting the shredder off. The overfeed lights start off 1 level away from overfeed and shutdown. Very useful! I can get more accomplished with a good pair of scissors.

" Very disappointed. The shredder doesn't even power on...I took it out of the box- removed it from the plastic bag, and installed the wheels. I turned on the power switch on the back, and I pressed the power button on the top of the unit. Nothing happened.

" Just received delivery of my second 99Ci. As soon as I unpacked it, I realized that the shredder had been redesigned. The pullout bin in my older 99Ci is made of hard plastic. This new one is constructed of cardboard with a plastic front. Very disappointing. I just wonder what else has been cheapened in this shredder. I purchased it on Amazon. Is a 99Ci purchased from Office Depot or Staples of higher quality and made better with no "cardboard" pullout bin?

" We purchased this machine as it was advertised as a SilentShredder and Ultra Quiet. However, it has the same noise level that our older shredder had. there is no way to turn the noise level down. When we asked about this the answer was more or less Oh Well! So if you what something quiet do not purchase this machine. We would give it a zero if possible since the reason for the purchase was the quiet ability

" Ten days after delivery of the 99Ci, the machine has become unusable. Although I remove all staples and paper clips, the machine has stopped shredding. Seven days after purchase I was forced to insert no more than four pages or the machine would jam. Next, the shredded paper would not drop into the paper bin causing it stop working, sensing the bin was full. The final straw was on the tenth day when shredding stopped—holes were punched into the paper inserted, not shredded.

" UNBELIEVEABLE - did not find out until after using for a while but the 99Ci is a piece of garbage. I own a small business and thought spending the money on a larger shredder would end up being economical as the "personal" shredders don't last very long. BIG MISTAKE jams all the time, the shredded paper clumps inside the basket and you constantly have to pull out the basket out and "rearrange" the shredded paper and there are sharp objects inside the basket that if you use liner when you go to remove it the bag gets slashed and all the contents go all over the floor.

Pros: Quiet Operation, Warranty
Cons: Jam Resistance, Quality Construction, Sheet Capacity, underpowered, poorly designed feed slot, shred bin pops out bin, will not shred advertised number of sheets.
" I purchased this PowerShred 99Ci to replace a SB-99Ci which I have been using for the last 8 1/2 years (since January 1999). The older machine was superb. This updated version of the 99Ci is not nearly as capable as the old version. The shredder motor is not nearly as powerful as the old model. Paper is much more difficult to feed because the feed slot is much narrower than the older model. Likewise, it will not accept the advertised 18 sheets of paper. And the pullout bin keeps popping out when shredding. If I cannot resolve these problems within the next week or two, I will return this shredder to Fellowes.

" Liked first so bought a second. From day 1 auto shutoff does not work. Shows too many sheets loaded even if there are only 6 and jams repeatedly. Thought over time there would be a "break in" and it would work better. Same issues. Tried cleaning semsor as shown - No difference

" I have owned several Fellowes shredders and have been happy with all of them except this most recent one. It is supposed to have a 17 sheet capacity but the red light comes on when putting in an envelope or as little as 2 sheets. As well, where the cutting mechanism is situated on the top of the machine, the "basket full" light comes on because the shredded paper all falls on the left of the basket. I would not recommend this shredder to anyone.
