" I’m a collector, an octogenarian, so have for many years saved cards, letters and poetry from my husband, mother, children and friends; love letters from old boyfriends; receipts, and records of work and business, all too personal to throw in the curbside trash.
Did I want my children to encounter this mountain of paper clutter? NO! So I bought three shredders one-by-one. By file fifteen, or less in one case, they clattered, stopped, had to be begged to take one sheet at a time. Finally growing discouraged I started looking at other people’s opinions of better shredders; perusing reviews by those who’d tested several shredders and discovered the Fellowes PS-79Ci had a good reputation. I bought one, however I was dubious of its staying power. I am having a grand surprise.
To empty the previous shredders I had to lift off the tops which were awkward and heavy. And they all filled much too quickly. My Fellowes container is large enough to hold one stuffed file which works for me, the weight being just right to manage as I slide out the basket and dump the pieces into a garbage bag.
Too often the other shredders were hot, quit working, always before I could get the contents of one file folder through them. This shredder gets hot after about three stuffed files. That’s just right, too, for I’m tired of sitting by then, ready to walk around for awhile, smell my roses and admire the moss rose … or start lunch, drink a cup of coffee, relax.
Forty-six large black garbage bags of shredded paper later, I am thankful to all of the people who suggested I buy one. I estimate I have forty-six more bags at least to go, but now have the faith … my Fellowes is up to the job. And happily, in a final win-win, a nephew is plowing under the shredded material as mulch for his next year’s garden so my lifelong collection of memories will live on. I visualize them now … as tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers.

" I have tried multiple shredders with no success.. This shredder has good capacity and able to do cards, paper clips c/d/rom disks etc. i seldom have had to stop for a cool down period. Easy to empty. Very happy.

" First piece of home office equipment I've ever had that doesn't have any "Cons"...just all "Pros." Quiet, efficient operation, excellent safety "Stop" feature, handles all my junk mail, card brochures/pamphlets, safely stores shredded material in a plastic bag easily accessible by pulling out bin from the front, no worry about removing staples or paper clips, modern style, fits perfectly under my desk. Highly recommend to others.

" This is my second Fellowes Shredder. The first one lasted more than 10 years, far exceeding my expectations. Without exaggerating, it probably shredded more than 55 boxes of paper and other miscellaneous documents over its lifetime. Fellowes shredders are very reliable and cost-effective. " Happy with the safety features for this shredder, I don't have to worry about one of my kids (3 under 3) messing with it. It's also very quiet and we can now shred at night without worrying about waking up half the house. I haven't shredded a ton of items, but definitely looking forward to never dealing with paper jams again.

" I purchased this shredder because I got tired of how my previous Insignia shredder would jam even when trying to shred less than it was rated for. The Fellowes 79Ci is much more powerful than my previous shredder and will even tell me if I am trying shred too much at once before it has a chance to jam It can also stop and back up really thick stuff automatically to continue shredding without me having to do a thing. Overall I am happy with this shredder. The only two items I would improve is the bin needs to be a little bigger and the automatic sleep mode is a little confusing. These aren't issues really but just a couple of improvements for future versions.

" Received a new 79Ci last week and immediately put it to work. Amazed at how many sheets of paper it will take and with a 5 year old grandson over at my house quite often, the safety measures on it are great over my past one. Actually, to be fair the 25+ year old Fellowes shredder still works , it just has a broken switch after all these years so you have to hold one button down to get it to work. Makes it a bit more cumbersome for continuous feed, but impossible to complain since it is around 25--26 years old. This is my third Fellowes, but the 2nd one I used at work, before I retired, was extremely trouble free and durable, but not quite tough enough to fall on the concrete off the tailgate of my pickup and survive , ha. I will say ,for the money , this new one is a bargain and I can easily imagine it will last longer than I will. I plan on taking my ancient one in to Goodwill since I am sure it will give someone solid usage for a few more years!

" Purchased a Powershred PS14CI a number of years ago and after probably a ton of paper the unit finally gave out. Moved out of state and after getting set up purchased the Powershred 79CI. I believe that this is a new and improved version of my previous shredder. Quite operation, pull out collection bin, handles up to 16 pages at a time and shred size is roughly 5/32" x 1.5" of crosscut paper. Can't praise this item enough.

" bought the 79Ci model of shredder because i need to shred 12 - 16 pages at a time. this is heavy duty and works great. glad i made this purchase. if you need a good shredder go with this one.
